Now that you have read about operations management, you have likely realized that you have been a part of some sort of operations management (OM) function in the past, whether you directly worked in an OM-related function; knew of or worked with someone who was carrying out an OM function; or were even simply a customer.
In your discussion, describe a notable experience that you have had in operations management. Was this a service or manufacturing operation, or both?
In response to your peers, describe how this experience compares to what you have learned in this module. Was there anything that you found to be interesting?Response to rob r
Good morning Class,
I am Rob Roberts and I currently am active duty in the Air Force for 17
years. I currently am filling the role of Technical Order Distribution
Officer, Cyber support technician and eTools manager. I am responsible
for all digital content (chiltons) use for maintenance in the aircraft field.
What this involves is I download PDF files of every technical order from
higher headquarters and distribute them to devices such as Windows
based tablets and iPad’s so that technicians can follow them to fix and
maintain the aircraft. Along with this, It is my responsibility to maintain
enough eTools (iPad’s, Window’s tablets, ect) to keep the mission going.
Being able to project proper numbers for sustainment of the equipment
requires continues monitoring through hands on as well points of
contacts with in each unit providing updates through databases and
spreadsheets. Overall I perform as customer service to both the units on
base and higher headquarters. Communication is paramount so that all
information gathered and forwarded up the chain is accurate and
precise. I didn’t ever think of how this would have fallen into operational
management until I read our assigned chapters and saw the correlation
between the two.

Good Afternoon,
My name is Davin Blain and I currently work as a water operator in my
local city. I am involved with operations management everyday. We have
a small crew of workers and a load of tasks that need to be completed.
This includes: daily checks of our wells to make sure they are all
working, assigning teams to leaks on our infrastructure to make sure
they are repaired effectively, and constantly completing work orders to
make sure customers are kept happy. On top of all these task I am
involved with making sure paperwork is completed to ensure our team
always has parts and supplies to complete these tasks. A major aspect
my experience in operations management includes prioritizing goals on
levels of importance to ensure the right tasks are completed at the right
times. Thank you
