develop a cohesive statement of purpose, which will serve as the introduction to this assignment. Using information gained from all five weeks of this course you will provide an overview of assessment and state how it applies specifically to your future work with children.
Your statement of purpose must include the following:
The purpose of assessment.
How you will utilize assessment when working with children. Make sure to include how this plan for utilizing assessment aligns with your future work.
How you can use assessment to document children’s work.
How will you use children’s interests and ideas when assessing.
How you will use assessment to differentiate instruction and intervention for children who may have a special need. The name of the child we are observing is Antonio. Antonio is a preschool and aged 4. The
children are was very cooperative and I feel that the observation went on smoothly. This is due to
the following reasons.
•
Eager parents – the parents of the child were so eager to provide all the information that
was asked of their child. This is because the parents wanted their children to learn.
•
Cooperative child – when we look at the kids’ spirit, he was very eager to learn via the
stories. The kid agreed to everything that he was told to do.
•
Eager child – the kid was so eager to listen to the stories he would listen keenly to the
stories that were told. After the story was over, the kid would ask questions and any
question that was asked he answered often correctly.
•
The kid was eager to open up and told us a lot about himself and what he enjoyed doing
what he would like his parents to get him for Christmas.
Looking at the reception of the child, he was so appreciative of the information that was
provided and the was so eager to answer the questions. When we tried to use some videos, the
child was so excited to be behind the camera and enjoyed everything about the video recording.
This helped us keep footage of what we were doing and also requested a copy of the video
(Henselmans, 2017).
The hardest thing with this observation is the fact that the boy was playfully giving us a hard
time to deal with him when he found something exciting. His attention was quickly taken away
when something came to his mind. The child could sometime just ran off and go out play with
his toys.
The most enjoyable moment in this observation was when the child was repeating the stories,
telling us what the stories entailed and giving his view of the story. It was also so enjoyable to
know more about the kid’s hobbies and what he likes. It was wonderful listening to the kid speak
since he was so wonderful at speaking since he was open-minded and was ready to ask questions
and answer the questions that were asked (Nuraeni, & Rahmat, 2018, May).
From the experience with Antonio, I came to learn that the kids need an exciting environment
that would make the study more exciting and help the kid learn better and enjoyable. This also
taught me that when dealing with children, it would be great to make the stories funnier since
when
Antonio heard a funny story; he would ask more questions and would be listening attentively
compared to a story with less humor.
Developmentally activities.
Developmentally activities are those activities that will help in ensuring that the child develops
appropriately. In this case, we are going to use some activities to improve language development
in a child’s life. They are outlined below:
•
Paying attention – when the child is talking, we should always pay attention. This
encourages the child to talk more and also build more confidence.
•
Getting attention – when talking to the child always ensure that you have their attention
so that they may listen to everything you are saying.
•
Praise – whenever a child tells you something praise them. This will give them the notion
that you understand them hence will talk to you regularly.
•
Pausing – pausing while speaking to the child gives them a chance to respond and ask
questions in case they need clarification.
•
New words – always help the children learn new words daily to add them to their
vocabulary.
•
Guessing – allow your child to guess what you describe. This will help them develop
their vocabulary better.
•
Directions – asking children for direction will help them develop their language.
•
Playing games with children.
•
Discuss what you are going to buy with your child.
Ethics.
While talking to the child, we seek permission from the parents and made sure that they clearly
understood what we were going to do (Gil-Gouveia, 2019). Another thing that we did to ensure
this was never using force. We never force the child to accept what we were doing but instead,
the child was excited about the whole process. This helped us throughout the process until we
concluded it. We looked for what the child loved and lured him using that. In our case, the child
loved computer games and that is what we used to ensure that the child cooperated with us to the
end.
