Leadership Context Assignment
Situation:
Leadership exists in many different contexts (sales, service, airline industry, ag production,
medical field, military, non-profit organization, volunteer group, social club, etc…). None of us
are likely to apply for a position with the word “leader” as the only word in the title. We are all
likely to practice leadership in a slightly different context in our future.
Assignment:
This assignment is designed to help you clearly describe the context where you will most likely
practice leadership in your future. This context can be an organization, a business, an association,
a group, a club, a company, a team, a family, or any other entity where you would demonstrate
ethical leadership. The context must be one in which you envision your participation following
graduation.
The required components for the Definition of Leadership Context are:
1. Write a meaningful explanation of the context you have chosen. The context should be
one that has an established history and actually exists in our world. In this explanation,
include:
a. The mission of the context.
b. The location of this particular context or entity. Where is the formal headquarters
located?
c. The number of people who are employed or work with this organization.
2. Describe the location of where you, as a leader, would be located. What is the physical
location and how would you, as the leader, fit into the organizational scheme? (You may
want to include an organizational chart to illustrate how you, as the leader, are related to
others in the organization.)
3. Discuss how the context “views” leadership.
a. What structure do you find in the organization?
b. Are there many leaders?
c. Do the workers/participants/members have input in the decisions?
4. List the activities that leaders complete on the investigated context.
a. What are the difficulties of practicing leadership in this context?
b. Does your context offer leadership development, executive development, or other
educational opportunities
5. Summarize your investigation of your future leadership context by answering these
questions:
a. How does the information I have gathered influence my leadership education?
b. What should I do to learn the most effective leadership skills?
c. How had my thinking about leadership changed since I have investigated the
context for my future leadership?
d. What did I learn about my context for future leadership that reinforces a key
concept from the class?

Answer: APA; however, you do not need to add a project abstract.

Answer: Yes, a cover page is necessary with your name, date, assignment title, and our course
number (ALED 202) on it.

Answer: Yes! Utilize bolded heading within your paper to separate information into sections
based on the primary content areas described in the grading rubric below.
Question: How many sources are you looking for?
Answer: The number of sources will vary depending on each person’s situation/context. I want
you to include a minimum of three sources. I think you for sure should interview someone who
is already in a leadership position in the context that you are interested in. Also, go online to
TAMU’s Evan’s Library and complete an online search for articles related to leadership in the
context you are interested in. See if there are some scholarly articles related to your area. There
will likely not be scholarly articles that mention specific companies, but rather articles that deal
with leadership and management in certain fields of employment. See what you find there.
